Taylor Decker is released by Lions in shocking twist ahead of free agency

Taylor Decker was just released by the Detroit Lions, weeks after announcing he'd be returning to the team following mulling over a retirement. It's a stunning twist just ahead of free agency opening on March 9, opening the door for a huge need at left tackle for the 2026 season.

Decker, set to be 32 years old at the start of the 2026 season, is likely open to playing for another team after this released. In a statement released by the left tackle, Decker stated that talks broke down between him and the Lions after "discussions" were had between himself and Lions brass, presumably about how much longer his future would be with Detroit.

By releasing him, the Lions are saving $11.6 million just before what is now a very important free agency period for them as it pertains to addressing their offensive line.

This story will be updated with more information.
